Mary BEARD

beard-mary Mary Beard is a Professor of Classics at Newnham College, Cambridge. She is an editor with The Times Literary Supplement and the author of the blog A Don’s Life. She is a member of the British Academy and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Her published works include The Parthenon (2003); Pompeii (Profile Books, 2009), winner of the Wolfson History Prize; Confronting the Classics (Profile Books, 2013); and SPQR: A History of Ancient Rome (Profile Books, 2015). In 2016 she won the Princess of Asturias Prize for Social Sciences. Her most recent book is Civilizations. How Do We Look (2019), about the history of civilizations through representations of the body and the figure of God.
