Remy AVILA FOUCAT

avila-foucat-remy Remy Avila Foucat studied Physics at UNAM’s Faculty of Sciences, graduating with Honours in 1993, and the same university gave him a grant to undertake postgraduate studies at Nice University in France, gaining a doctorate in 1998 with a jury recommendation. In 1999 he joined UNAM as a researcher. He spent ten years with the Centre for Radioastronomy and Astrophysics, UNAM, Morelia campus, and in 2010 moved to the Centre for Applied Physics and Advanced Technology, UNAM, Querétaro campus. He is currently a tenured researcher and is a Level 3 member of the National Scholars’ Network. Dr Avila has carried out research fellowships at a number of major institutions, including the Institute of Photonics in Barcelona, the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy and the University of Hawaii. He has also coordinated UNAM’s Technology degree and is currently responsible for postgraduate studies at CFATA. Remy Avila’s speciality is applied optics. His two areas of research cover extreme scales: at one end, the atmosphere’s optical turbulence and its implications for astronomical observations; and at the other, biophotonics: the fascinating interaction between optics and cellular biology. Dr Remy Avila is a reviewer for journals of international prestige. He has received major awards, including the National University Distinction for Young Academics, and the Optical Society of America’s Allen Award.
